On Monday 16 November 2009 Harrow Arts Centre held a visual arts competition ahead of their much anticipated Christmas Pantomime Cinderella.

Local children designed a stunning array of pictures that reflected the classic fairy tale’s theme of “your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them”. Over 130 youngsters created artwork that reflected their own take on this theme by drawing pictures that showed their personal dreams and aspirations. The Mayor & Mayoress of Harrow and Lawrence Mathias, a professional artist along with Undaleeb Qazi, Internal Communications, Harrow Council and Reema Rathod, Participation Programmer, Harrow Arts Centre, had the difficult job of deciding the winner of each category. Reema Rathod says, “We had a great response from the children and they put so much effort into their work it was hard choosing a winner”

The lucky winner of each category won a VIP family ticket for this years Pantomime.

The winner of the 4-7 category is wannabe fireman, Mann Parekn age 6 from Belmont School who drew a picture of a fireman alongside a red hot fire truck. 10 year old potential pianist, Shrushti Shah also from Belmont School won the 8-11 category with her picture entitled “Piano Dreams”. The winner of the final category of 12-15 years is 14 year old Nower Hill student, Lana Redmands who wowed the judges with her imaginative take on having choices in her future.

To celebrate the children’s work and the success of the pantomime, the budding young artists’ work, alongside other highly commendable creations, are to be shown in a special Cinderella Exhibition in The Corridor Galleries, Elliot Hall from Monday 7 December 2009 till Sunday 10 January 2010. Admission is free for everyone so there’s no excuse to miss this wonderful chance to admire these one of a kind pieces of art.
