A collection of films is to be shown in Harrow next month, in the borough’s first film festival.

Harrow Council is showcasing films of Britain from the 1940s and work of local film makers at Harrow Arts Centre in February.

The three-day festival, which has been organised by Harrow Council with the support of Film London and UK Film Council, includes new work by local film makers and young people, a showcase of classic cinema and shorts from a bygone era and an exploration of world and art-house film.

The films, which will be aired on cinema screens throughout Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February, are aimed to help build stronger communities in the borough and provide educational entertainment to residents.

Cllr Jean Lammiman, portfolio holder for Community and Cultural Services, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to see films which aren’t usually available to view.

"We are planning to showcase the work of young people and local film makers, along with a historical look at the area 70 years ago and stories of black and ethnic communities – something for everyone.”

The festival marks the launch of a film programme at Harrow Arts Centre.
