In response to customer demand, a permanent new café is to open in Harrow Arts Centre after Harrow Council granted a license to a local company.

At a meeting on the 22nd June, Cabinet approved the appointment of JAMS Kitchen Ltd to run the café and catering business at the arts centre following an open tender process.

The company currently runs Daisy’s in the Park at West House, Pinner, where it has exceeded business targets by 60%.

As well as offering a popular new addition to centre visitors, JAMS Kitchens Ltd will pay the Council a guaranteed income of £18,000 a year and in future years increase the contribution to 5% of the total café and catering income. They also plan to invest further in the cafe facilities, adding to the popular facility.

Portfolio Holder for Community and Cultural Services, Cllr David Perry said:

“Harrow Arts Centre is really popular with Harrow residents and many have called for the addition of a full time café . I’m really pleased that we have been able to deliver on their ideas and also to appoint a local company with a proven track record in the area.  I have no doubt that a full time cafe and a bar for evening performances will encourage even more people to visit the centre."

Note to editors:

Other Harrow Council led supports available to businesses include the small business rate relief.

Last year over 1,500 Harrow firms claimed and saved over £1.4m from their business rates. However, more than double that number could be eligible and missing the chance to trim thousands of pounds off their annual business rate bills.

Harrow Council is sending out a fresh call to the borough’s business leaders to check if they are eligible and make sure they are claiming.
