Grimsdyke Brass Moves Home
Grimsdyke Brass are delighted to announce that Harrow Arts Centre is now their new home. The band has had additional rehearsals there over the past few years whilst preparing for concerts and competitions, which led to further discussions and a subsequent invitation from Harrow Arts centre to rehearse there regularly.
The move comes as Grimsdyke Brass finishes a busy summer season with performances at Harrow Arts Centre, Grim’s Dyke Hotel open day, Pinner Memorial Park, Hampstead Heath and a week-end on the bandstand at Bournemouth.
Jo Saunders, Service Manager, Harrow Arts Centre said ‘We are delighted to be welcoming Harrow's brass band to their new home at Harrow Arts Centre and hope the band will enjoy rehearsing here for many years to come. Grimsdyke Brass have performed their excellent and highly entertaining concerts in the Elliott Hall regularly over the last few years and we are thrilled to have their Brass Band Christmas as a highlight in our festive programme this December.’
Grimsdyke Brass was formed over 30 years ago from the brass bands of two Harrow schools, Whitmore and Park High and named after the ancient earthwork which crosses Harrow Weald. Only the conductor and principal cornet player are professional brass teachers; the other members include teachers, accountants, students, and a physicist. The band has rehearsed in venues across the borough during this time including Park High School, Harrow Teachers Centre and Zoom Leisure. Alan Piper, Chairman of Grimdsyke Brass commented ‘I have often thought that the Arts Centre would be the band's natural home and I look forward to us rehearsing and performing there’. The band is currently enjoying preparing for future performances under their Musical Director Sharon Broughall and this move will give the band a real boost.
The bands first concert in their new home, A Brass Band Christmas is on Sunday 4th December at 7.30pm and will kick off the festive season in style. There will be some well-known tunes and a few surprises that are bound to set the foot tapping and bring a Christmas smile.
