Are you passionate about the arts, crazy about cinema or moved by music? Then why not sign up to be a Harrow Arts Centre Ambassador?

We're looking for 30 resident volunteers to both advise on and advertise our programme of events, shows and activities. The pioneering new scheme is about residents taking centre stage in shaping the borough’s arts offer and attracting a wider audience to the Hatch End venue.

Ambassadors will get an unrivalled chance to contribute, using their local knowledge to gather ideas and feedback from residents about what they want to see or do at the venue. This information will be used to make sure the programme of events is relevant and attractive.

In addition, ambassadors will promote Harrow Arts Centre through word of mouth, at various events such as Under One Sky or simply by distributing brochures, posters and flyers around the borough.

Ambassadors will initially sign up for a year at a time and enjoy lots of perks including free tickets for Harrow Arts Centre events, invites to season previews and the opportunity to see behind the scenes at Harrow’s premier arts venue.

Cllr David Perry, portfolio holder for community and cultural services on Harrow Council, said:

“This scheme is about residents having a starring role in deciding what we offer at Harrow Arts Centre. It is also asking local arts lovers to make a song and dance about the venue, to bring the great programme of shows and activities to a wider audience.

“Harrow Arts Centre belongs to our residents. This is about listening to local people and giving them a greater say in how it is run and what you can see or do there.

“Anyone over 18 can become an ambassador – all you need is a passion for the arts and a desire to spread the word in your local community.”

Kelvin English who recently became the first Harrow Arts Centre Ambassador, said:

“I think a lot of people in Harrow don’t realise what the arts centre offers. You don’t have to go into central London to see top class acts - they also perform here and the shows are inexpensive too.

“I wanted to help spread the word about what’s on offer and make sure more people in Harrow make the most of this great resource. Signing up to be an ambassador means I can also play a part in the programming and get personal satisfaction from the impact I make.

“It is also an opportunity to meet new people as I go out and promote the centre. There really is something for everyone from film, dance and drama to ballet and comedy.”

People from all walks of life are welcome to apply to become an ambassador.

You’ll need to be friendly and really good at talking to all sorts of people. No knowledge or experience of the arts is necessary, just an eagerness to find out more and get other people interested too.

Applicants should also be aged over 18 and will need to live in the borough or on its borders.
