Family Fun Day

Saturday 23 July, 11.00am - 4.00pm , Admission FREE

Join us for a fun day of free activities for the whole family as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend!  Everyone will have the opportunity to be creative, develop new skills and enjoy the challenge of doing something entirely different.

The Fun Day's packed programme includes:

Workshops and Taster Sessions
Most sessions will require you to register on the day at the information desk, make sure you don't miss out!

  • African Drumming
    Learn to play African Drums with Akoto. Experience the wonders of African Music through the playing of traditional Kpanlogo drums. Workshops run throughout the day at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.15pm and 3.30pm (30 mins), registration required. 
  • ACL Digital Camera Workshop (12+)
    Something for the Adults. Workshop takes place at 11.30am (45 mins), registration required. 
  • Bollywood Dance from Karan's Bollywood Masterclass
    Join in the fun and take part in an energetic dance workshop to the latest Bollywood Hits!
    This workshop will take place at 1pm (45 mins), registration required. 
  • Classical Bharatanatyam from Srishti Yuva Culture
    An introduction to Bharatanatyam, a dance from South India, characterised by rhythmic footwork, strong geometric lines, and expressive facial and hand gestures. This workshop will take place at 1.30pm (45 mins), registration required. 
  • Zumba Dance Fitness Party with Yvonne Burke
    Party yourself into shape! A latin-inspired, easy to follow, calorie-burning, dance fitness party designed for all fitness levels!
    Workshops take place at 1pm and 3pm (30 mins), registration required. 
  • Salsacise with Ione Brown
    A fusion of salsa and aerobics, can be hard if you want but fun!
    Workshops takes place at 11.30am and 1.30pm (30 mins), registration required. 
  • Flamenco Fever Dance with Samantha Luisa and Flamencoshow.co.uk!
    Enjoy an introduction to Flamenco Dance with Sam, a professional dancer from ROH.
    Workshop takes places at 2pm (45 mins), registration required. 
  • Taekwon Do with Master Manning
    A chance to touch the tip of the iceberg in a very effective way to keep fit, and learn to defend yourself.
    Workshops take place at 3pm and 3.30pm (30 mins), registration required. 
  • YogaDynamix - Yoga for Children
    Bring your child for a fun-filled, co-operative, interactive class! Yogadynamix use traditional yoga techniques that have been recreated in playful, simple and fun ways incorporating reading, storytelling, music and creative arts to educate the 'whole child'. Workshops take place at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm (30 mins), registration required. 
  • Street Dance with Pinner Theatre Dance
    Learn some fierce dance moves.  Workshops take place at 1pm (ages 8-11) and 1.45pm (ages 12+) (45 mins), registration required.
  • 3D Technicolour Painting in Plasticine with Jane McAdam Freud
    Make a masterpiece in plasticine based on the work of your favourite painter or a work from your imagination.
    Drop in session that will run from 11am - 12.30pm and 1.30pm - 4pm. 
  • Trash Boats with Marie-Louise Jones  
    Eco-friendly model boat making workshop. Create your own model boat out of recycled and found objects and then sail it in Harrow Art Centre's minature Fun Day Pool! Drop in session that will run from 11am - 1.30pm and 2.30pm - 4pm. 
  • Accessible AirBrushing with On the Level Productions
    Create air-mazing pictures! Airbrushing has never been easier.
    Drop in session that will run from 11am - 2pm and 3pm - 4pm. 
  • Puppet Olympics with Laura Holden
    Create your very own puppet character and pit them against their puppet friends in the Family Fun Day Puppet Olympics.
    Puppet workshop is a drop in session that will run from 11am - 1pm and 2pm and 4pm.
    Puppet Olympic Races will take place at 12.30pm and 3pm (30 mins), registration required.

  • Classical Bharatanatyam from Srishti Yuva Culture

  • Flamencoshow.co.uk Student Dance Performance
    Students demonstrate their colourful Flamenco dances.

  • Tap Dance from Pinner Theatre Dance
    1.45pm 
  • Bollywood Dance from Karan's Bollywood Masterclass (KBM) Revolution Dancers
    A fusion of East meets West dance choreography. Watch the KBM Revolution Dancers in action, for more details visit www.karanlive.com.
    2.30pm 
  • 100%
    Youth Performers from Harrow Art Centre's very own youth band night 100%.
    Loressa will be playing from 3.15pm-3.15pm, Emma Elizabeth from 3.25pm - 3.35pm followed by Tomorrow's Warriors from 3.35pm - 4pm. 

 

Other Activities!

  • HAC's Fun Day Arts Fair in Elliott Hall
    An excellent opportunity for the whole family to learn more about the classes and clubs that take place here at Harrow Arts Centre with special performances from HAC's user groups! 11am - 4pm. 
  • Library Lion Story Telling
    Spot the Library Lion and join him for an interesting and exciting story!
    Storytime will take place at 11.15am, 12pm, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.15pm (30 mins). Don't miss out! 
  • Swim & Splash Sessions
    Bring your swimwear and get active at Hatch End Pool for free with inflatables.
    Sessions take place at 12pm and 12.30pm (30 mins). 
  • Face Painting on the Elliott Terrace.
    All Day! (charge applies)
  • Sporting Activities on the field with Harrow Leisure Centre.
    Get into the Olympic spirit!
    Drop in session 11am - 4pm.
